"Did you have a good time?"
This is the question that the renowned health care futurist and thinker Leland Kaiser is quoted as asking friends after a hospital stay. Sound preposterous? We don't think so.
Admittedly, nobody wants a reason to be hospitalized (except perhaps to give birth to a joyous addition to life.) But being hospitalized does not have to be made unpleasant. Nor does working in one.
To wit, in this area of our website we will share with you a few experiences, ideas, and some links to help those of you involved in health care improve these experiences. As Dan puts it: "If you are in better shape when you leave the hospital than you were when you went in AND the people there treat you well, it should be a positive experience in many ways. And providing that kind of care should be a joy for everyone on the health care team." Why not?
Excellence in Health Care is...
Poudre Valley Health System
Find out what Poudre Valley Health System is doing in its quest for excellence in health care... and doing so well that they were recipients of the highly coveted Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2008. (HoE Blog article by Dave Wheeler. Includes video segment.)
An interesting blog post by Tom Peters, with comments by Dan and Trevor...
Some folks just don't "get it" that true Excellence is something that must permeate every area of an organization and every aspect of what the organization does. Tom Peters posted an entry in his blog on May 4th that stirred a LOT of discussion centering on the issue of "customer service" in health care. You can see it by clicking on Tom's blog entry and selecting "comments" at the bottom, or go straight to the comments by clicking here.
